A HISTORY OF THE CHURCH

Description:      Understanding history is an important tool for interpreting the times in which we live. We all have heard the phrase “If we don’t know (or understand) the past, we are bound to repeat it.” There is truth in that. A better way to describe this same principle is found in the Book of Ecclesiastes 1:9-11:

9 History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. 10 Sometimes people say, "Here is something new!" But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. 11 We don't remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.

New Living Translation

We see a lot of things happening within the Church today; crazy, unusual, and questionable at the very least. History shows us that man has always wanted to fabricate his own religion. He wants to mold it, frame it, and manipulate it to fit his life, his culture, and his world. This has been the source of many false teachings that have infiltrated the church.

Having a historical understanding of the Birth of the Church and the Development of the Church is instrumental for understanding the Current State of the Church. This study will cover an overview of the Gospels to help us understand what Jesus had to say about the Church. We will then use the Book of Acts as an outline to understand the birth and growth (development and spread) of the Church, integrating the Epistles to help bring clarity as to why they were written.

That’s not all. We will also look at the church through the ages, from the first century to the present.

Goal: Our goal for those who follow through with this study, is to have a more comprehensive understanding of the Church – how it was birthed under the Power of the Holy Spirit, how it developed through the course of history, how pagan influences have affected it, how God has always preserved a remnant for His name, and why the state of church is an indicator of the return of Christ.

Women's Ministry

Women in Ministry is an organization that serves people both inside and outside the church. We seek to serve people inside the church in various ways, such as with a meal, a card, or through prayer. We also seek to serve others in our communities. We try to be an encouragement to others as best we can when we hear of specific needs.

Within the body, we have several other functions. Some of these are: planning church dinners, seeing that the church décor is changed for the seasons, and keeping the kitchen stocked with necessary items. Our dinners include pot lucks for various occasions. We also serve meals for funerals and assist the families in planning and ordering food. Though we don’t enjoy the circumstances, it is good to be an encouragement to the hurting families.

A big part of our ministry is praying for missionaries and meeting the needs missionaries have when they are home on furlough. Missionary letters and prayer for them are a part of each meeting. We send money to the missionaries through our children’s mission offering.

We thank God for what He has allowed us to do in the past and look forward to seeing how He will use the Women in Ministry group in the future.

Youth Ministries

Sunday School

Our Sunday School program exists to see the youth of GCC develop a passion for the Lord Jesus Christ because of their deep need for Him in their lives. The primary spiritual training of children and youth is the responsibility of the parents (Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4), but we strive to work in conjunction with the parents to teach the youth of Grover spiritual truths and magnify our Lord Jesus Christ. The youth Sunday School classes incorporate prayer, Bible study, discussion, and other activities.

Children's Ministries

Sunday School

Our Sunday School program exists to see the children of GCC develop a passion for the Lord Jesus Christ because of their deep need for Him in their lives. The primary spiritual training of children is the responsibility of the parents (Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4), but we strive to work in conjunction with the parents to teach the children of GCC spiritual truths and magnify our Lord Jesus Christ. There are two Sunday School classes that meet at 9:00 on Sunday mornings for children ages3 through 6th grade. The curriculum that we are using is called Generations Of Grace.  This curriculum takes a child through the entire Bible in three years.  The classes and teachers are as follows:

Early Childhood

Nursery

The nursery is available for infants and toddlers. A nursery worker is available during Morning Worship, but parents are welcome to utilize the nursery during other services as well. The purpose of the nursery is to provide a safe, fun place for infants and toddlers to play and be cared for. It also provides a quiet place for moms to feed their infants.
